Have your say on the proposed traffic, parking and public space changes in the Merimbula CBD.

Background

Bega Valley Shire Council is proposing traffic, parking and public space changes in the Merimbula CBD as part of the Merimbula CBD Upgrade.

Planning for improvements to the town centre has been underway for more than a decade. This includes the 2015 Merimbula CBD Landscape Masterplan and Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement 2040, which set a long-term vision for Merimbula as a vibrant seaside destination with improved public space and a more people-focused town centre.

Building on this work, the Merimbula Transport Study, adopted in 2023, identified opportunities to improve pedestrian safety, simplify traffic movement and create more active and attractive public spaces.

Before any changes are implemented, Council is seeking community feedback.

Your feedback will help inform Council’s decision in July 2026 on which elements will proceed to implementation.

If approved, the changes are expected to be installed between August and September 2026 using some temporary infrastructure.

  • Community feedback will remain open.

In March 2027, Council will review monitoring data, technical assessments and community feedback and determine which traffic, parking and public space changes will be retained, amended or removed.

Where changes are retained, they will remain in place until further funding, detailed design and future planning enable permanent construction as part of the broader Merimbula CBD Upgrade.
