FAQs
Why is the climbing net and toddler play unit being replaced before this project is complete?
The existing climbing net and toddler play unit at Spencer Park have both reached the end of their service life and need to be replaced to ensure the area remains safe for the community to use.
As a result, Council is progressing the replacement of these play items separately from the broader Spencer Park upgrade project.
Installing the new equipment now will not affect the broader Spencer Park project, as it can be relocated if required.
The Spencer Park upgrade is currently in the planning and concept design stage. Community feedback gathered through this consultation will help inform future improvements to the park, including accessibility, connectivity, landscaping, amenities and other recreation opportunities.
Is Council removing car parking at Spencer Park?
No decisions have been made. Council is seeking community feedback to understand how the space is used and what improvements the community would like to see. Improved parking arrangements will be considered as part of the concept design process.
Has funding for construction already been secured?
No. Funding has been allocated to undertake planning and concept design work only. This work is an important part of presenting the project benefits and community value to future funding partners. Once the concept design is complete, Council will seek funding opportunities to deliver the project.
What types of improvements are being considered?
Potential improvements may include upgrades to the playspace and park facilities, improved pathways and connections, enhanced foreshore access and better parking arrangements.
How will my feedback be used?
Feedback from the community and stakeholders will help inform the development of the concept design. Council will also consider technical, environmental, operational and budget requirements before making any decisions.
What happens after consultation closes?
Council will review community and stakeholder feedback and use it, alongside technical, environmental and operational considerations, to help inform the concept design for Spencer Park. A Consultation Summary Report will be published on this page once available.
When will the project be built?
The project is currently in the planning and concept design stage. Funding for construction has not yet been secured. Once the concept design is complete and endorsed by Council, Council will actively seek funding opportunities to deliver the project.
How is this project connected to the Beach Street to Lake Street Active Transport Connection?
The Beach Street to Lake Street Active Transport Connection project has secured grant funding and is currently progressing through detailed design. Construction is expected to commence in 2027.
The Spencer Park concept design will need to consider the future Active Transport Connection to ensure both projects complement each other and provide safe, accessible connections through the area.
