Have Your Say on proposed Spencer Park upgrades to improve accessibility, inclusivity and create a more user-friendly recreation space.

Background

Council has allocated funding in the 2026-27 Delivery Plan to progress planning and concept design work for Spencer Park as part of the Coastal Accessibility Program Round 2.

The project aims to improve accessibility, inclusivity and overall functionality to create a user-friendly recreation space for people of all abilities.

Key objectives of the project include:

  • delivering inclusive play and recreation opportunities
  • improving connectivity throughout the park
  • protecting and strengthening coastal open space and green linkages.

Potential improvements may include upgrades to the playspace and park facilities, improved pathways and connections, enhanced foreshore access and better parking arrangements.

Community feedback gathered through this engagement process will help inform the development of the concept design.

Final decisions will be made by Council taking into account community feedback, technical requirements, environmental considerations, budget constraints and operational needs.

This project is at early planning and concept design stage only. Funding for construction has not yet been secured.

The concept design will help demonstrate the project's benefits and community value, supporting future funding applications.

Once the concept design is complete and formally endorsed by Council, Council will actively seek funding opportunities to deliver the project.

Council will also be replacing the climbing net and toddler unit at Spencer Park. The current play items have reached the end of their service life and require renewal.

This work is being undertaken separately to the broader Spencer Park concept design project and will ensure the space remains safe and functional for the community while future improvements are being planned.

Installing the new equipment now will not affect the broader Spencer Park project, as it can be relocated if required.

How to provide your feedback

Council is seeking community feedback to better understand how Spencer Park is currently used, what improvements the community would like to see and what elements are most valued within the space.
