Project Overview
Council is delivering Stage 2 of the Merimbula Airport Runway Starter Extension project, with 80m being added to the starter extensions at each end of the Merimbula airport runway.
Purpose
The project will complete the full runway configuration identified in the Merimbula Airport Master Plan 2043.
This will enable a greater range of aircraft to service the airport, particularly passenger airline aircraft which are increasing in size as airlines replace ageing aircraft.
The project also meets the requirement in the Development Approval, which stipulates that the works must be completed by 21 December 2030.

Commonwealth Government Regional Airports Program Round 4 - $3.778m
Connection to Council's Community Strategic Plan
This project aligns with Bega Valley Shire Council Community Strategic Plan 2040 through part B of the ‘Plan’ – ‘Our Economy’ page 19; Strategy B.5 ‘Our key industries are resilient and strong’.
