Project Overview
The Coastal Accessibility Program – Round 2 builds on the success of accessibility improvements delivered through Round 1 at Bruce Steer Pool, Pambula Beach and Short Point.
Purpose
The program focuses on upgrading three key coastal locations to improve accessibility:
Spencer Park, Merimbula
Kianinny Bay, Tathra
Cocora Beach, Eden
Council has allocated funding in the 2025–26 and 2026–27 Delivery Plans to undertake planning, site investigations and concept design work for each location.
Community consultation will help shape future concept designs before they are considered by Council. Once endorsed, Council will actively seek funding opportunities to deliver detailed design and construction.
The program aims to improve accessibility, inclusivity and visitor experience while protecting the unique environmental and recreational values of each site.
Funding
Bega Valley Shire Council has committed $624,189 in the 2025-26 Delivery Plan to progress planning and concept design for future projects.
Additional funding has been allocated through the 2026–27 Delivery Plan to continue planning for individual sites.
Construction funding has not yet been secured. Once concept designs have been completed and endorsed by Council, funding opportunities will be pursued.
D.3 Plan and provide for improved access to community facilities and leisure and recreation assets that will meet current and future needs.
